U13 CUP DEFEAT AT BURWELL
The U13 season got under way with a cup match against a well organised Burwell team. Seeing the green topped pitch captain Anthony Phillips chose to bowl first in match reduced to 15 over per side. His decision proved correct as opening bowler Edward Fairey dismissed one of the openers in the third over. He also bowled the Burwell number three in his next over but unfortunately it was off a no ball. Colville then used six bowlers in an attempt to break a second wicket partnership of 64 between Chris Summerskill (28) and Luke Du Plooy (25). Anthony Phillips (1 for 10) made the breakthrough but at the end of their 15 overs the Burwell total had risen to 88 for 3.
In reply Colville go off a bad start losing three wickets for seven runs against some accurate Burwell bowling. It was always going to be an uphill task from there and the innings closed on 43 for 6.
Although the team lost, there were many good things to come out of the game. Colville's ground fielding was excellent, and there are several bowling options. With the bat there were encouraging performances from Charlie Latham, Ben Wilkins and Henry Fairey.
This is a young Colville team with many players who will have one or maybe even two more years at U13 level, so given time they will develop into a very good team.
The next match is on Thursday May 8th at home to Foxton (6pm start).
