JUNIORS HOST DUTCH TOURISTS
Weston Colville was the venue for the final match of four played on a mini tour by the junior players of Hilversum Cricket Club. Although cricket is popular in Holland it is still seen as a minority sport with many clubs playing on coconut matting or other artificial surfaces. So a visit to our country gives the players the added experience of playing on grass.
The team was a mixture of age groups incorporating U11 to U14, but due to unforeseen circumstances the visitors only had eight players, with Colville fielding nine. Batting first Samyat Shah (20) and Joe Williams (18) kept the score moving as the score reached 61 for 1 off 11 overs. Colville pegged that back mainly due to a man of the match performance from Ben Wilkins who took 4 for 9 in his 4 overs on what was regarded as a good batting track. After 17 overs the visitors were all out for 94.
The Colville reply featured a unique opening partnership in Sam Watson and Freddy Gurney. Not only were they the oldest and youngest members of the team but they were also the tallest and shortest. But it was numbers three and four, Jack Turner (13) and Billy Gage (18) who accelerated the run chase. They were well supported by Tom Saville (28no) as the home side secured victory in the 18th over for the loss of only four wickets.
Below are some pictures and action shots from the game.

U13s LEAGUE VICTORY
Tom Saville was in fine form as the U13 team beat Linton by 58 runs in the latest league match. He finished with 72 not out in a Colville total of 150 for 3. Skipper Anthony Phillips (57) recorded his first half-century of the season having got into the forties on a number of occasions.
With a big total on the board Colville used 9 bowlers, with Josh Read, Edward Fairey and Anthony Phillips all picking up 2 wickets each as Linton were dismissed for 92, the final wicket falling to the final ball of the match.
Even in victory Colville should admire the disciplined bowling of the Linton team who deserve credit for only conceding 3 wides and 2 no balls in their 20 overs. By contrast, even making allowances for some occasional bowlers, Colville conceded 9 wides and 5 no balls, which contributed to extras being joint top scorer. It was a good win but there is still work to do on the practice ground.

SKIPPER SETS UP 1st XI WIN
Skipper Ade Westley set up a good win against Abington with a powerful knock of 83. Having lost early wickets despite a rapid 34 from Adam Curtis it was important to post a good score against fellow mid table opposition. The lower order provided good support with Alex Meddle (42) and Adam Taylor (30) helping the total up to 272 for 8 after 48 overs.
With the skipper suffering a recurrence of a neck injury that had kept him out the previous week it was left to Trevor Westley to once again open the bowling. He picked up 2 for 27, as all the other bowlers played their part in restricting Abington to 121 all out in just over 40 overs. Nick Wilderspin (3 for 26) was well supported by Matt Daniels (2 for 26) and Fred Scruby (2 for 24).
This match represents the half way mark in the league program and the team are now in eighth place in the table with 139 points. Runaway leaders Foxton have amassed 232 points. Kimbolton are at the other end of the table with 95.
